What is the first step to becoming a licensed security guard in California?

The first step is obtaining your California Guard Card, which is required by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) before you can work as a security officer.

Here's how the process works:

1. Complete the required 8-hour Guard Card training course through a BSIS-approved training provider.
2. Submit your Guard Card application, fingerprints (Live Scan), and applicable fees to BSIS.
3. Once approved, you'll receive your Guard Card and can begin working for a licensed security company.
4. Within your first six months of employment, you'll complete the remaining 32 hours of required BSIS training to maintain compliance.
