What does ‘AMDG’ mean?

You may have noticed the abbreviation 'AMDG' in our logo. This was with deliberate and intentional thought when we designed our logo. So you may now be asking, what does 'AMDG' mean? The full phrase attributed to St. Ignatius is Ad maiorem Dei gloriam inque hominum salutem or "for the greater glory of God and the salvation of humanity."

To live "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam" (AMDG) at Guardian Training Center (GTC) means embracing a way of being that permeates every thought, deed, action, and inaction—all is contemplated and weighed for the greater glory of God.

Living Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam at GTC means:

  • Claiming a legacy of "other-ness" that sets us apart and makes us at ease with any culture or people.
  • Seeking to make all things whole, approaching challenges without hesitation, finding God and the Good in all things, and proclaiming His glory in everything we do.
  • Embracing a heritage of service—however, whenever, and wherever needed—and leading in service to those impoverished in mind, body, and spirit.
  • Respecting the dignity of every human and the splendor of all creation, free from societal constructs.
  • Being aware of and responding to injustice and inequality with Spirit-driven determination, seeking to right wrongs, lift the downtrodden, bind wounds, and welcome the outcast.
  • Offering one’s whole self in service, even sacrificing personal liberty for the sake of loving others.
  • Upholding a higher standard, seeing the good and the possible in every situation, and recognizing our place as privileged children of a living God who demands humility and service.
  • Being the voice for the voiceless, responding to the Spirit’s call, and finding God in all things, people, circumstances, and places.
  • Speaking truth to injustice, embracing the contradiction of Love, and surrendering to God’s will, detached from outcomes and rooted in the security of divine Love.
  • Coming together as one family, working to realize heaven on earth, and glorifying the Love that always finds a way.

This is to live Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam at Guardian Training Center.
