Why is Learning to Use an AED Important?

Why should I learn to use an AED?

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, with more than 350,000 people affected annually. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is the only effective way to restore a regular heart rhythm during cardiac arrest. While you should always request assistance from trained medical professionals, the average response time for first responders is 8-12 minutes after calling 911. For each minute defibrillation is delayed, the odds of survival decrease by approximately 10%. Therefore, having access to an AED and knowing how to use it can be critical in saving lives.
